Whats a CMS system?

A content management system (CMS) is an integral part of web designing process. It is a platform through which the users can update and modify the website contents using specific software. It helps in centrally administered site maintenance through publishing, editing or modifications of the web page.

CMS has some important features, the highlight being the ability of sharing and contribution of data to a single page by a large group of people. It also allows monitoring and control of the data to be published, with continuous validity and compliance checks. Data, in CMS terminology, can refer to any content-text, audio, video, phone numbers, scientific data, etc. The centrally located CMS gives an essential advantage of version control, where the data is automatically updated to its newer version. Some popular CMS software include Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, DotNetNuke, etc. Content management is performed in three ways.

The first form is the Enterprise Content Management system (ECM), mainly used by commercial organizations. Here, the data related to the organization, be it documents, files, contacts, etc. is managed by this system. This is made possible by preventing bottlenecks, streamlining of access and maintenance of security and integrity of the system. It uses five specific technologies, namely capture, manage, storage, preserve and deliver. Capture incorporates data conversion from the paper to its electronic equivalent through scanning. The Manage component links the other components of the system, which have the option of being used individually or in combination. Storage is, obviously, concerned with saving data for short term or long term purposes into repositories, and is different from Preserve, which involves back up and essentially long term storage of unchanging data. Lastly, the Deliver component displays the data which is captured, stored, managed and preserved by the ECM.

Component Content Management system performs the function of storing and managing the content at sub-document level, from where it can be frequently reused. It includes tasks such as maintenance of security, management of objects and servers and maintaining reports from continuous audits. The CCM stores each component (part of data) only once, ensuring a single source of content. The advantages of this system entail increased accuracy and consistency, reduced delivery and maintenance as well as translational costs.

The third form of CMS is the Web Content Management system, which is used for creation, management and storage of content to be uploaded on web pages. The content can include pictures, graphics, audio, video, and other user-interactive applications. It has the ability to personalize the web content depending on user's requirements, such as regional language selection, indexing and can also perform runtime selection and assembly of the content.

Internet Marketing

If you are running a website and you are trying to make money at it, you may have done your fair share of Internet marketing. If you don't know what this means and you have a website up, you probably aren't making much money at it so, here is some basic information on Internet marketing as well as some different approaches you can use.

Internet marketing is the same as normal marketing, it's just done on the web and not outside. You make use of well placed ads using programs such as Google Adsense to spread the word around about your website and what you have to offer. You can also design specific banners to place on different website to attract more attention.

Social networking is the biggest craze, and a good one as well. This is a great way to spread your information out there and get others to do it as well. But, what if you have tried and are still using all of these methods but you still need to get the word out?

Here are three out of the box ideas to market your website.

1) Cars - You can advertise your website on cars with decals, stickers and the like. You may have seen some normal cars driving around with these on them and they are a great way to spread the word around as you move around.

2) Library - You can place information up about your site on public notice boards in public libraries in your area as well as other areas if you know someone else who can do that for you.

3) Newspapers, both local and national - You can place ads in the announcement sections of many papers for very little money and there are people who scour these for information, which can generate a whole new group of people who may come to your site.

While Internet marketing is a great way to get information about your website and what you are doing you can't just stop after a week or two. If you are running a site you need to make sure you are constantly updating the content on the site as well as promoting it all over the place. The more you tell people about the site, the more traffic you will get.

The Importance of Ads

Every time you go to a website these days you see a lot of ads all over the place and, while this may not have been part of the original intent of those who created the network for the net, it's here to stay. Making the most use of current technology without seeming overbearing is a key to successful Internet Marketing.

Marketing is the art of targeting specific audiences with your product or service ads in a manner that will garnish you the best possible response for your efforts. Whatever you are selling you want to make sure it's targeted to the right people and that it is an ad which will catch their attention and spark their interest in your company.

The firs thing you need to do is make sure your ad makes sense and is catchy either visually or based on its content. If you are going for a graphic ad, you want something that will stand out without being too gaudy and that actually makes sense to the reader. If you ad has nothing to do with your product at all, you may have wasted a lot of money and time.

If you are going for a text ad you have a slight balancing act to perform. You want to get the most information across is a short amount of space so spend some time on exactly how you are wording the ad. Choose your words carefully to make sure you get the biggest impact you can in a small space. Most successful text based ads have a small graphic on them to get the readers attention.

As for the frequency of the ads this is also rather tricky. If you ad appears too often on too many places you may begin to alienate potential customers. There's always that one ad you see everywhere you go and you just become so sick of seeing it that you hope you never hear of this company again. Target your ads to sites that actually have something to do with your company and your Internet marketing will be successful.

Death of the sales letter

I recieved this in my inbox the other day.

Dear, Mark

Are you still using long salesletters?

If you are you could be costing yourself tons of cash. People do not respond well to long salesletters anymore.

However, you can increase your sales by 2-3 times just by using a simple video.

http://www.#########.com

Salesletters are a thing of the past and just do not work anymore. The internet marketing scene is changing before our eyes.

If you do not start learning how to use videos for your marketing methods you will become extinct like the dinasours.

You see videos just work better....

Do you believe that? I don't myself simply because the sales process does not work like that. People like storys and they also like to read something and then put it down and come back and read it again. We just don't iteract with video in the same way. So I won't be rushing to buy this course myself. Now video and a sales letter yes, video on its own hmmm

Staying Focused

Everyday I recieve to my inbox an offer of some kind. Generally it is either a piece of software that will make my life easier or a course on information I don't know. Some day I get both.

So how do you judge if you should invest time on it or do you just delete them all?

Well for myself I have a set specific list of projects that I am doing, I have my daily tasks for my current projects and I already am a member of one or two knowledge based sites. So for me it has to be a VERY good pioece of sales copy to even tempt me into reading it. If after reading it I think it will fit into what I am doing ALREADY and NOT divert me into a totally new area then I will buy it. And I think that is the key here.

It is SO easy to get sidetracked from your main focus and go off on a tangent in pursuit of riches, but if there is one thing I have learnt in all my years on the internet it's this.

Regardless of what anyone tells you. There is no easy money on the internet. It ALL requires lots of work (at least intially) Remember that next time youre tempted and stay focused.

Internet Marketing - The Basics

Do you that marketing, whether it is done online, in print or on TV is all basically the same thing; trying to inform potential customers about the product or service you provide and getting them to make a purchase from you. Marketing online is as complicated a prospect as it is in outside of the Internet and there are some truly effective ways to go about and some that are not so effective.

The first thing any marketer needs to know is their target demographic and audience. If you are selling, let's say, summer pool supplies you don't want to advertise on sites that are local to places that are cold most of the time. This would be a waste of resources, time and effort. Look at who you want to sell to and advertise on sites they would go to.

The age group is equally important, if you are promoting a service for, let's say, personal mobility chairs you don't want to advertise on a site mainly frequented by teenagers and young adults. You would want to advertise on medical sites and sites which target senior citizens. Making sure the age demographic is met is very important as well.

Another very important aspect of Internet marketing is the social networking front. Making use of social networking sites such as Twitter, Digg, MySpace and Facebook and other sites like these does this. You can gain a large following of people who are interested in the things you have to offer and give them updates on your services and products on a daily basis.

The best thing about those mentioned sites is that they are all completely free to use and, if you are lucky, you may get people to help advertise for you by posting about you in their social circles. This is the power of social networking, that you can develop a following of people who will, for free, advertise for you just because they want to talk about your products.

The advertising services you use is also very important because using a service such as Google's Adwords is a great way to make sure your ads are targeted to the correct websites without any effort on your part. With Google's Adwords, you create your ad and pay for the service and the system takes care of the rest.

Their systems will, based on the options you set up and the keywords in your ad, target it to site with similar keywords and content. This way your ads are placed on site where people visiting them are already interested in the services or products you supply and this helps to target you more effectively.

Regardless of how you go about Internet Marketing you want to make sure you target your audience by needs and age and that you advertise on sites related to your business. Doing it otherwise will be a waste of your time and money and advertising. The better targeted you are in your ads, the better a response you will receive and the more business you will gain over time.

Internet Marketing 101

Marketing is the art of getting your name and product's information out to the public and in normal cases this is done through newspapers, television and other such types of ads. Online, however, there are some different ways that you can effectively market yourself to get your name and URL known to the world.

There are different ways to do this and they are:

1. Ads - these are placed on other websites to get people to go to your website
2. SEO - search engine optimization
3. Link Exchanges - where you and another website trade links to each get more hits
4. Social Networking - such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace

These are all effective ways of getting your name out there. You may want to go with some of the less expensive to completely free ways to market your site. The free ways are not always the more effective ways to market your site but they are still rather effective, especially if you are just starting out and don't have much of a budget.

The most time intensive of all of the methods would be Social Networking. While not specifically marketing, it can, and is used as a marketing tool by many people. While this method can be very helpful and effective, it also takes up a great deal of time in both preparation as well as continual execution.

Placing ads on other websites through and ad service such as Google's Adwords is also very effective however this method does cost money. The nice thing about Adwords is that your ads are targeted to specific website which are about the things you are marketing thus giving you more exposure to the right client base.

Through SEO you can make your website much more attractive to search engines which will drive more traffic your way thus potentially allowing you to generate more earnings. While this is really not marketing, it is a great tool that gives you much more exposure.
Making use of all the above mentioned types of marketing will definitely generate more hits to your website which equals out as more earnings for you.
